Plan Your Visions

This morning I had the joy of being a very proud mum at my son’s school Academic Assembly.  As usual, the school invited a guest speaker to come along and inspire the student’s, and their parents, with some well chosen words of wisdom.  Today’s guest totally blew me away!

Besides being a past student of the school Cassie Leese is an Executive Level Manager for Tupperware – and all plastic jokes aside, I have to admit that she had me nodding in agreement and madly recording her inspirational pearls of wisdom from the moment she took the microphone.  Even though Cassie was there to talk to the students I couldn’t help but think just how relevant her message is to us all.

Here are a few of her well chosen words:

Set Achievable Goals

A pretty obvious message I know, but Cassie extend it with the direction to continually ask yourself  “WHY  is this goal  important to me?”

We often identify the what and the how of our ambitions,  but it isn’t until we fully understand the ‘why’ that we can truly commit to steering ourselves towards our goal.   Sometimes we need to ask ‘why’ a number of times to get to the root of our inspiration – however it is well worth uncovering the reason as it will help us to clearly  focus on our intention and head in that direction.

Avoid Dream Killers

Surround yourself with a support crew who will help you achieve your goals.  Don’t pay heed to those who wish to kill your dreams, they’re often just jealous of your success anyway. Cassie used the phrase “If it is to be, it is up to me”  and how true that is.

Be Your Best friend

Often we are our own worst Dream Killer! Doubting ourselves and our abilities we often set up roadblocks that hinder us in achieving our goals.  Setting  achievable goals and  celebrating your successes, no matter how small they are, is a great way to give yourself a pat on the back and make the path towards your ultimate goal so much easier to traverse. Encourage yourself towards the long term goals just as you would encourage a friend to achieve theirs.

And finally what I think was the ultimate gem of inspiration shared by Cassie today …

In closing Cassie borrowed a quote from the learned Dr Seuss – one that I am sure you are familiar with, but also one that we need to be reminded of often

“You have brains in your head,

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
